Star Striped Reflections

On this beautiful Veteran's Day I didn't really want to share a long story - or rather, there are so many stories that it would take too long to share. Although some of the veterans in my family have passed on, to my knowledge all lived to share their story beyond that experience. As a matter of fact I have had the honor of growing up in a family with many who have served their country both far and near: both of my grandfathers along with several of their siblings, my brother, several uncles, several cousins and their spouses, and of course many friends and family by extension. Each of these precious people have a unique experience that perhaps I'll share at some point, but it is what they have in common that I treasure most. Strength. Perseverance. Discipline. A commitment to betterment even when it's tough. Of course these character traits aren't unique to veterans. Each of us have the same opportunities each day to stand strong and push through. Yes, life is tough. Yes, the past few months have been crazy. Heck, the past year has been crazy! Yes, there will be more moments ahead that demand our attention. Just breathe. You're not alone. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other in confident aim to the better day. As Abraham Lincoln stated, “Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.“
